Product Review: Nutrex Maxxplosion

This is one product that got me a little confused.

I initally thought that it is the equivalent for UN's Torrent, a post-workout composite but Nutrex has designed Mass XXplosion as an intra-workout.

This is evident by the arginines in the formula.

Everything else is quite similar to Torrent. There's a good dose of BCAAs, same amount albeit two different types of creatine, some complex carbs but less protein.

In a nutshell, the product boasts of more advanced ingredients. These components work synegistically to infuse your body with the above-mentioned for growth during a workout. It's simple: BCAAs for anti-catabolism, creatines for energy and volumisation, complex carbs for loading and nutrient shuttling and protein for muscle.

The unique feature is that each serving comes packed in individual sachets for ease of use. This is surely convenient for gym goers as lugging around a tub is no fun at all. For those who pre-pack their supps in shakers or containers, we all know how it's like when the containers aren't dry enough and you get a cake by the time you hit the gym.

I wasn't too big on the taste of the Fruit Punch flavour. As usual, it is the cherry tinge but I felt that it wasn't strong enough like that of Torrent.

Anyway, taste = to each his own.

Product Review: LG Sciences BC+EAA

Here's one of the lesser known brands - LG Sciences... if I didn't know better I would have thought that the company sells tellies and refridgerators.

As with every other supplement company out there, they promise products which are straight to the point, effective and cost-effective. Three criteria that every savvy fitness buff genuinely cares about.

I eagerly tested out LG Sciences BC+EAA during one of my workouts. The sample came packaged in a bottle instead of an insulated paper packet.

Blue raspberry flavour. I've always been skeptical about this flavour for any supplement. It can really be a hit or miss depending on the brand's flavouring tech. A good example of a hit would be MHP's Dark Matter.

Unfortunately, I'll have to scratch LG Science's attempt as a miss. Not that it tastes awful... the flavour is there. It's just that the overall taste is too watered down in a 300-400ml dose. Benchmarked against
Scivation's Xtend (which BTW released B.Rasp recently!) and I'm pretty sure where I stand about this product.

Not the kind of supp to sip while chilling out listening to Beach Boys' Kokomo or Barry Manilow's Copacabana, but it does get the job done as an intra-workout. The
BCAAs, hydrolyzed EAAs and glutamine content keep catabolism at bay and promotes muscle development while training though the dosage could be a little low depending on body weight.

I honestly can swear by using BCAA + glutamine combination products during workout. I think that has attributed to most of my improvement so far.

Product Review: Universal Nutrition Intra-Aid

Universal Nutrition's answer to Scivation's Xtend? No doubt that the latter has garnered considerable success as an intra workout supplement, revolutionizing the way gym rats fuel their precious bodies to combat catabolism during a heavy workout; so it is no surprise that everyone is jumping on the same bandwagon.

I'm a big fan of Xtend, it's simply fantastic. So the bar is set against this contender. I tried a sample pack to gauge the product.

In terms of formula, Intra-Aid has a lot to boast about. It combines not only
BCAA's and glutamine, but also contains beta alanine, carbs and protein. Awesome. Once convinced that my body's getting the right stuff, the next aspect is taste.

The stuff mixes quite easily. Just a couple of swirls in the shaker and it's good to go.

Blue raspberry flavour. Gosh, that can't be very natural. It looks like car radiator fluid. lol

I took a swig and am immediately greeted by a very subtle "milky" fruity tangy taste. It's decent but does take awhile to acclimatize to. I fear that in their effort to provide the right nutrients in a product, doing so has complicated things for the flavouring tech department.

Anyway, like I always say, taste is really a matter of personal opinion. I could be wrong. Furthermore, taste is secondary if you're serious about your body. What's important is the right nutrients.

Product Review: Scivation Xtend

Recovery... such a simple word but one that has had many meanings to me. I won't go off a tangent now so recovery in a fitness context would simply mean the process of repairing the body after sustaining stress. It's always been a battle for me due to my frequent badminton sessions and can literally be a pain in the ass, especially for back-to-back sessions.

I decided to try the best glutamine for 2007, AKA Scivation Xtend since it claims to have a precise blend of BCAAs in a 2:1:1 ratio; glutamine, citrulline malate and vitamin B6, thus keeping the body fuelled for endurance while preventing muscle breakdown during a workout. I was advised to sip the product as I workout to give my body a steady supply.

crummy pics yet again..

Flavour of choice: Refresing grape. I'm beginning to like Scivation products cos they taste great. But then again, most recovery drinks are designed to taste great bcos the last thing you'll want is a goddamn shitty-tasting mix to bugger you at the end of a great workout. Anyway, no complaints.

I made a mental note to gauge the effects of this supplement and upon waking the next day... well... I don't feel as bad as I should, but I guess that's fair. It'll be miraculous if I woke up acheless after my usual badminton sessions. Too early to judge this one. I might be updating based on my experience.

In the meanwhile, all I can think of is this

heat knuckle.... extend!
